FERRIDAY, La. &045; Winning games just doesn’t motivate Ferriday’s Lady Trojans too much nowadays.
Winning tournaments really gets them going.
Saturday’s 77-46 thumping of Vidalia gave the Lady Trojans the title in their own tournament, the team’s third tournament title so far this season while upping their season record to 14-0.
The Lady Vikings play Monday at home against Davidson before playing in the Sicily Island tournament after the first of the year before starting district play Jan. 14.
&uot;We’ve won three, and we’ve got one more to participate in,&uot; Ferriday head coach Lisa Abron said. &uot;Hopefully we can win that one, too. It’s always fun when you’re winning. I don’t want to say we haven’t been tested, but I’m looking forward to district and playoff time. I want to get into the meat of things. District will be tough.&uot;
As for the Saturday’s game, the Lady Trojans were able to put up a 48-15 lead at halftime on the Lady Vikings despite losing speedy point guard LaShawnda Pryor in the first quarter after she stubbed her toe.
The injury wasn’t serious, Abron noted, and it gave the team a chance to try several other people at the position to better the team’s chemistry.
&uot;As usual, we set the temp early and jumped out on them early,&uot; Abron said. &uot;I’m trying to do some different presses this year. We tried a little bit of all three of them to see what happens, and we put some new people in to see how they mixed with the starters.&uot;
Attempts at getting a report from the boys’ final between Ferriday and Vidalia were unsuccessful.
