NATCHEZ &045; There’s never a time that’s too late for to get it together.
In the final regular season game of the season, the Cathedral Lady Green Wave put away St. Aloysius, 41-34, for its first win in Division 7-1A before next week’s division tournament.
&uot;It’s a fantastic way to finish off our home season for our seniors,&uot; Cathedral head coach Peter Arnold said. &uot;Nobody deserves a win more than us. Going into this game we were 1-17, but we still practice hard and play hard. We never gave up. That went a long way in winning that game.&uot;
The Lady Wave (2-17, 1-9) got rolling early and controlled the board to keep ahead of the Lady Flashes (4-20, 2-8). Behind a 25-rebound effort between Kristen Ater and Danielle Smith, the Wave took an 8-5 lead by the end of the first and 22-13 lead by halftime using its zone defense.
St. Al answered in the third quarter with an 11-7 run to trim the lead to 29-24, but Cathedral’s 12-10 edge in the fourth put the game away.
&uot;The first half we played 1-2-2 defense and just did a great job of hitting the boards,&uot; Arnold said. &uot;In the third quarter they made a run and got to within three of four. They started getting inside on us, and I switched to a 2-3 zone defense and got it out to a big lead. Switching defenses at the right time paid off for us.&uot;
Sarah Kerut led St. Aloysius with eight points. Cathedral’s top scorer was Mattie Smith with 14.

&uot;When they (Presbyterian Christian) doubled down on Jenae in the post we put in an offense that worked well to get us some open shots,&uot; Lady Tigers’ head coach John Brashier said. &uot;Problem was we didn’t make them. And even when Jenae had open looks, she didn’t make hers.&uot;
