Good morning and good Monday. As we look forward to another week, we take a look back at the good news from the past few days.

Three young Adams County men became the first youths in history Friday evening to graduate from a juvenile drug court in Mississippi.

But the history-making wasn’t the achievement &045; it was the progress these young men made in treatment and in realizing that they need to set their lives on the right path. Their lives have been structured by the program since the beginning, with regular court visits and counselors to monitor their progress in school and in treatment. And now they now have an opportunity to be role models for other young people who come through the drug court. We wish them well.

With preclearance from the U.S. Justice Department of justice court and constable district lines, we hope Adams County can put the speculation behind and get on with the business of campaigns and elections. The wait for preclearance even led the county’s Democratic Executive Committee to file suit to delay the elections if approval wasn’t granted in time. We hope county officials have learned from the experience and that we won’t cut it this close again &045; it could have proved costly for voters.

A joint recreation commission can meet as soon as possible now that the school board has appointed its members to the Natchez-Adams County panel, which will oversee plans for major recreation improvements in the county. That’s none too soon, considering that Natchez, Adams County and the school board will be asking voters to approve a referendum in November seeking a bond issue for new facilities.
