NATCHEZ &045; Officials from both Adams County and Concordia Parish on Monday gave their support to a day of prayer and fasting to be held July 6 throughout the Miss-Lou.

During a Board of Supervisors meeting, Natchez Mayor F.L. &uot;Hank&uot; Smith, supervisors President Lynwood Easterling and Vidalia Mayor Hyram Copeland signed a letter to be sent out to local residents asking them to participate.

Russell Wagoner, president of the Concordia Parish Police Jury, brought jury President Rodney Smith’s signature to add to the list, since Smith could not attend.

A unified prayer effort is needed for the area to prosper, local officials said.

History reveals &uot;that man must humble himself to be blessed with

happiness and joy,&uot; said Veterans Service Officer Erle Drane, who is spearheading the event.

Supervisor Thomas &uot;Boo&uot; Campbell said he first thought several months ago that such an event was needed. &uot;Nothing happens unless God allows it,&uot; Campbell said.

Organizers are asking people who are old enough to decide to fast and who are healthy enough to fast to do so from midnight to sundown July 6. Churches are also being asked to participate.

Participants are asked to contribute to charity the amount of money they would have spent on meals that day, Drane said.
