FERRIDAY, La. &045; The second time was much more impressive.

After both Winnsboro and Catahoula traded punches in Winnsboro’s 5-3 win in the first game of the finals of Major League District 5 South Sub-district tournament, it did it again Friday.

After weathering a storm and a change in location to Ferriday, Winnsboro used a seven-run third to handle Catahoula, 10-1, to win the title and advance to the district tournament next week in Oak Grove.

The sub-district title is the second straight for Winnsboro after defeating Catahoula in the finals last summer.

Winnsboro also rode the arm of right-hander Dustin Johns, who mixed up his speed plenty to toss a two-hitter while striking out 11 and walking just two.

Winnsboro scored seven in the third thanks to doubles from Jason Jarrette and Jordan Temple. Jarrette led off the inning with a double, and Temple followed with his two-bagger to keep the rally going off Catahoula pitchers Jacob Roark and Jordan Wilson.

Winnsboro took a 1-0 lead in the seconed when Zach Hughes doubled in Tucker Ellington after Ellington reached base on an error to lead off the inning.

Catahoula scored its run in the fourth inning.
