Pay attention to campaign promises

In Adams County alone, counting the various district, county and statewide offices, 89 candidates will be up for votes Tuesday in the Democratic and Republican primaries.
That makes for some serious decisions, and we urge voters to choose wisely.
Over the past few weeks, candidates may have come to your door to shake your hand and get to know you. We have published stories and mini-biographies on the candidates, giving you a glimpse into the issues they believe are important and what they would do in office.
The candidates who win their party’s nominations on Tuesday will go on to the general election in November. Some candidates could all but win election on Tuesday, barring a runoff, because their party has no opposition in the general election.
Either way, the choices voters make on Tuesday are important as we begin the process of choosing the people who will lead our county and our state through some tough times.
Nationally, the economy is inching toward recovery &045; but here at home, we know that recovery will take more than a strong stock market. We need industry, we need sound financial decisions, we need strategic plans.
Over the past few weeks, incumbents have been touting their strengths in office, while challengers have told you what they would do if elected.
We urge you to pay attention to their ideas &045; because many of them are good &045; but also to the facts. Sometimes candidates &045; with the best or worst intentions &045; promise what they can’t deliver. Pay attention to the duties and responsibilities of the offices as much as the campaign promises you hear.
But most of all, please vote on Tuesday.
