CENTRAL, La. &045; Like any other sport, fast-pitch softball is a race &045; whoever is in first at the end is the winner.

So WCCA head coach Buck Shipp isn’t really fretting over the Lady Rams’ 0-4 start to the fall season, including Monday’s 13-4 loss at Central Private. The pitching staff &045; sophomores with senior Merideth Fletcher unable to throw &045; is making progress here in the early going.

Lill Netterville started and took the loss, and Corley Ann Sessions &045; who pitched well in the B-team game &045; came in relief.

&uot;We just don’t have any pitching right now,&uot; Shipp said. &uot;But they’re young. They’re 10th-graders and haven’t pitched much in their lives. We didn’t walk as many as we did in that tournament over the weekend. They’re going to be good ball players.&uot;

Central Private got on Netterville in the first inning with three runs before the Lady Rams (0-4) scored four in the second to take the lead. Fletcher had the biggest shot with a double that scored Amanda McCarty, and Erin Ashley singled in Fletcher to trim the lead to 3-2.

Sarah Boyd singled in Ashley, and Tori Whetstone singled in Boyd to give the Lady Rams the lead.

Central Private then scored one in the second, four in the third and five in the fourth to take the nine-run lead.

Centreville 12, Columbia 1

CENTREVILLE &045; The Lady Tigers exploded to score most of their runs in the second inning to take a four-inning win over Columbia in the 4-AA opener.

Kendall Madsen got the win for the Lady Tigers.

Ash Brashier tripled and scored an inside-the-park homer on a Columbia error.
