JONESVILLE, La. &045; Bears head coach Chad Harkins was serious when he said earlier in the week he didn’t want his team to begin the season 0-2.

With a grizzly-like vengeance, Block dropped 41 points in the first half and added a late score for the 47-0 victory over the Class 2A Trojans.

The Bears ran for 340 yards on 44 carries, while passing for 33 yards.

Ferriday was led on the ground by Darren Johnson (4-40) and Terrance Hawkins (4-41). Quarterback Scotty Cage did not complete a pass in four attempts.

MEADVILLE &045; Former friends of Bulldog head coach Anthony Hart turned into quick enemies Friday, as the Hornets, formerly coached by Hart three years ago, exacted some revenge when Justin Watley knocked through a 25-yard field goal in overtime for the win.

The Bulldogs (1-2) built a 9-0 halftime lead on the strength of a Zack Thomas 20-yard touchdown reception and a 45-yard field goal from Chris Blackwell.

After Loyd Star made it 9-6 on a Josh Townsend 1-yard run, Franklin County built its lead up to 13, 19-6, on a Jasper O’Quinn 5-yard touchdown run and another Blackwell field goal, this time from 47 yards, with 32 seconds left in the third.

But a 13-poin fourth from the Hornets, a 50-yard pass-and-catch touchdown from Watley to Townsend and a 13-yard run by Juron Collins with 51 second left sent the contest into an extra frame.

Jefferson 28, Velma Jackson 8

CAMDEN &045; Break out the Tigers. After being knotted up at 8s at halftime, Jefferson County exploded in the second half with 14 third quarter points and a touchdown in the last 12 minutes.

Quarterback Christopher Carradine and receiver Joshfer Nichols hooked up twice on scores of 65 yards. Anthony Chambliss added a 55-yard run.

WCCA 21, Tensas 6

ST. JOSEPH, La. &045; The Chiefs put up an admirable fight, but it wasn’t enough to stop the Rams powerful running game led by Travis Allen and Duston Dore, who scored two touchdowns.

The Rams points came all in the second quarter on Dore runs of 1 and 13 yards, in addition to a Ruston Cado to Brad Pritchard 40-yard touchdown pass.

For the third straight game Allen eclipsed the 100-yard plateau, with 16 rushes for 135 yards. However, the shifty tailback suffered an ankle injury lat and is already doubtful for next week’s showdown with Adams County Christian.
