CENTREVILLE&045;&045;Officials have located two businesses in the 51-acre Centreville Industrial Park on Mississippi 33 south of town.

MS Machine Works, LLC of Centreville will locate on four acres in the park, according to Hollis Day, a partner in the newly-formed company.

Day said the company will house a full-fledged machine shop and repair industrial equipment in plants and factories.

&uot;We hope to break ground on a 40′ x 120′ building in the next month.

We plan to initially hire five workers, including a welder and

three machinists,&uot; Day said.

Centreville Mayor David Owens said local businessman Louis Gaulden also has plans to relocate his trucking company from downtown Centreville to a three-acre site in the park.

&uot;We have been getting quotes to have the site clipped and cleanup up.

We plan to hire somebody Monday morning to get started on that,&uot; Owens said.

In other efforts to attract industry,

Owens said Centreville aldermen next month will consider a resolution to apply for Growth and Prosperity status through the Mississippi Development Authority.

With GAP designation, new businesses locating in Centreville may qualify for 10-year exemptions from some state and local taxes.

The exemptions would not include ad valorem taxes for public safety or education.

&uot;We want to get that (GAP status) in place incase we have someone interested in the Carter building or any other location in town.

It allows us to offer some incentives,&uot; Owens said.

In 1988, the William Carter Company closed its 55,392 square-foot garment factory in Centreville.

The one-story, brick building is situated on 23.1 acres of land along Mississippi 24 and features four loading docks and paved parking for 287 vehicles.
