ENTERPRISE &045; When Cathedral needed a defensive stop in the biggest way, it got it.
Yep, the Green Wave can play defense.
Cathedral got a big stop late in the game to hold Enterprise on a fourth-and-3 situationa at the Cathedral 22 with about three minutes left to help take a 29-22 win in Region 4-1A action Friday night.
The win ended the Green Wave’s two-game losing skid.
&uot;We made some big stops,&uot; Cathedral assistant Craig Beesley said. &uot;Justin Dollar made some big tackles for loss in that drive. Justin Dollar stepped up for us tonight.&uot;
Enterprise trailed by seven with seven minutes left in the game and got the ball at its own 45. From there the Hornets moved the ball well, chewing up four minutes off the clock, before getting down close to the red zone.
Dollar and Matthew Hall made a big sack to start the drive and put the Hornets in a hole, and the defensive unit held on.
Then the offense took over, moved the ball and ran out the clock.
&uot;We gave up good field position all night,&uot; Beesley said. &uot;We were losing the field position battle but were able to hold on at the end. The offensive line really stepped up in the last three minutes of the game.&uot;
The Green Wave took the first lead of the game when Jonathan Jackson scored on a 21-yard pass from Turner Smith in the first quarter. After Smith ran in for a score, he hit Garrett Jones for a 21-yard pass for a 22-13 lead at the half.
The Green Wave took a 29-19 lead in the fourth quarter when Jackson ran down field and fumbled near the end zone before Andrew Ellard recovered it in the end zone for a touchdown and the 10-point lead.
