NATCHEZ &045; What transition? Some thought the reappearance of head coach Penny Moak on the sidelines for Huntington’s Lady Hounds this season would take some time.

But through two games in the Adams County Christian Tip-Off Classic, Huntington is a perfect 2-0 and appears to be picking up where it left off when Moak sat out last season due to receiving treatment for Hepatitis-C.

Thanks in part to a 16-point second quarter where the Lady Hounds separated themselves from Wilkinson County Christian Academy, Huntington held on to defeat the Rams 41-31 Thursday.

&uot;I think things are going real well. Not only are they readjusting to me, but we’ve got five new starters out there too,&uot; Moak said. &uot;I could see improvement from their first game. That first night they weren’t looking to shoot the ball.&uot;

A change in philosophy in pressing the Lady Rams allowed Huntington to lengthen its lead in the second period.

The Lady Hounds took advantage of WCCA turnovers to head into the locker rooms up 24-14.

&uot;The difference between the first (press) was then we were putting less pressure on the ball and we had one person back,&uot; Moak said. &uot;When we switched to that second press we brought that man up and started to trap when (the Lady Rams) got the ball inbounds.&uot;

Erin Hedrick was the only Huntington player in double figures with 13 points, but Whitney Bradford and Jessie Lee each contributed with nine apiece, while Amber McGlothin dropped in eight.

WCCA senior Elizabeth Whetstone led all scorers with 14 points, as Francis Ryan added six for the Lady Rams.

&uot;We really did a good job on defense tonight,&uot; Moak said. &uot;We were able to force some turnovers, and I just hope we continue to keep improving.&uot;
