NATCHEZ &045; As of Monday’s Board of Supervisors meeting, Adams County is one step closer to a comprehensive plan for development codes.

Larry Smith, director of planning for the Central Mississippi Planning and Development District, brought near-final copies of the plan and said he would meet with each supervisor separately to get their recommendations.

The plan has been in the works for some time, but it was stalled by the death of one of the technicians and other personnel problems.

The plan would provide planning and zoning guidelines for county residents that will not limit residents but will make the most of the land, District 2 Supervisor Virginia Salmon said.

It is to &uot;better manage our resources now and to plan for the future,&uot; she said. &uot;We are trying to have a land use plan that will benefit everybody and protect everybody.

&uot;If you have industrial sites and residential sites, you need to protect each for the sake of each.&uot;

There have been several instances in the past, Salmon said, when action was needed. As a result, parts of the plan already have been decided through the passing of road, subdivision, septic system and sewer regulations.

Ordinances the board has already passed will now just become a part of the plan.
