NEW ORLEANS &045; Vidalia coach Dalton Faircloth had a choice to make late in Friday’s Class 2A regional playoff game against Redeemer-Seton.

With his team trailing 22-21 after a touchdown run by senior Michael Randall with 7:39 remaining in the game, Faircloth could have Vidalia either attempt to tie it with the extra-point kick or try to take the lead with a two-point conversion attempt.

Faircloth chose the later and was rewarded when Randall ran up the middle for the two points to lift Vidalia to a 23-22 victory at Jefferson Playground

Vidalia (12-0) will play Mamou in the Class 2A quarterfinals.

Vidalia drove 29 yards on six plays for the winning score. The drive was set up when senior C.J. Williams recovered a fumble by Redeemer-Seton running back Jamal Johnson. Randall wiggled through the Redeemer-Seton defense for a 7-yard touchdown run on fourth and 4.

After a pass interference call on Redeemer-Seton on a first two-point conversion attempt, Faircloth decided to have Randall run up the middle.

&uot;I thought (the Vikings) would kick it (for the tying extra point),&uot; Redeemer-Seton coach Brantley Williams said. &uot;I give them credit. It was a gutsy call.&uot;

Vidalia then stopped Redeemer-Seton (7-5) on its last three possessions.

Trailing 7-0, Redeemer-Seton tied the score at 7 on a 14-yard touchdown pass from quarterback George Lewis to receiver Kenneth Kensey with 11:55 remaining in the second quarter. The Rams took a 14-7 lead on a 25-yard touchdown run by Johnson.

But Vidalia scored eight points on a safety and a 2-yard quarterback sneak on fourth down by Tony Hawkins to take a 15-14 lead.

Redeemer-Seton came back to take a 22-15 lead when Lewis threw a 16-yard touchdown pass to Kensey and a pass to Jahan Jones for the two-point conversion.
