More than 30 police officers, Louisiana state police and deputies from throughout the Miss-Lou poured into south Ferriday Tuesday night searching for murder suspect Greg D. Moffett.

Moffett &045; who is wanted in the Sunday slaying of his live-in girlfriend, Tatanisha LeKeytha Thomas &045; apparently stole a car on Reynolds Street and led police on a chase along rain-slick U.S. 84 through Concordia Parish.

At about 6 p.m., Moffett finally crashed the silver Nissan Maxima in a ditch in front of the KFNV radio station just south of Ferriday and fled through nearby bayous, with police chasing him for a couple of miles.

Concordia Parish sheriff’s deputies and Ferriday police continued the search throughout Ferriday’s streets, although Moffett had not been found as of late Tuesday night.

A photo of 30-year-old Moffett, of 42 Brenham Ave., was also relayed Tuesday night to law enforcement authorities in nearby Catahoula Parish. &uot;He (Moffett) knows some people over there,&uot; Natchez Police Chief Mike Mullins said.

Through Tuesday afternoon, officers accompanied by police dogs searched for Moffett throughout north Natchez. Since Sunday, searches had taken police from North Union and nearby streets all the way south to Monroe Street.

Police had continuously received tips and calls about possible sightings of Moffett from that area since Sunday, Mullins said.

One such caller reported seeing the suspect Tuesday afternoon near the old Sadie V. Thompson High School football field on North Union Street.

Nearby, the staff of the Boys & Girls Club of the Miss-Lou, which is located in part of the former Thompson High building, kept the club’s young members inside the building while police searched outside.

&uot;We’re keeping everybody in the building,&uot; Stevens said. But the facility was actually a safer place than most for the children, since there’s only one entrance to the building, Stevens pointed out.

An autopsy performed Monday confirmed Thomas died from blunt trauma to the head, according to Adams County Coroner James Lee.

Police reports showed Moffett had been charged with domestic violence against Thomas three times during the last three months.

Thomas’ death was the second murder of the year within Natchez city limits, and the fifth within Adams County as a whole.
