Green Wave scores shutout, fifth consecutive Division 7 championship

SUMMIT &045; Rick Freeman knew he had some big shoes to fill after Rocky Kettering, who is now living just outside Atlanta, Ga., led Cathedral’s boys soccer team to four straight division titles.

Well, now make it five consecutive Division 7 championships in a row for the Green Wave and the first under Freeman as they defeated the North Pike Jaguars 4-0 Friday night.

Nick Anderson scored all four goals for Cathedral, which finished the regular season 11-2-3 overall and 5-1 in division play. The Green Wave will host Richland out of Division 6 next Tuesday at either 6 or 7 p.m.

This was Anderson’s fourth hat trick of the season.

&uot;That’s what we’ve been playing for all season,&uot; Freeman said of winning the division title. &uot;The players are very excited. I am. We’re looking forward to the postseason.&uot;

Anderson’s first two goals were via the penalty kick, the first with 2:00 to go in the first half and the second at the 34:00 mark of the second half.

Anderson then scored three minutes later with an assist by Jordan Kirkwood. He then scored with 6:00 left in the game with an assist by Wyler Murray.

&uot;I thought we played really well tonight,&uot; Freeman said. &uot;We played hard and aggressive. We were getting the shots.&uot;

North Pike 4, Cathedral girls 1

The Lady Jaguars finished 6-0 in division play and will also host a first-round playoff game next week after defeating the Lady Green Wave Friday night.

&uot;They have a lot of talented players,&uot; coach Christine Krupa said. &uot;They have good forwards and good shooters.&uot;

Cathedral (3-11, 1-5) got its only goal when Brittany Laird scored with an assist from Sue Ann Bernard with 5:00 to go in the game.

&uot;They played as a group. They played with a lot of energy,&uot; Krupa said of her players. &uot;Overall, it was a pretty even game. We had a lot of opportunities.&uot;

North Pike finished with 16 shots on goal while Cathedral had 14.
