Payne and a second passenger in the truck, Paul Ware, 42, were transported by ambulance to an area hospital, Crawford said.

Crawford said he did not know if the Wares were related.

The wreck occurred at 5:45 p.m. when Payne attempted to cross the northbound lanes of U.S. 61, Crawford said.

&uot;Payne’s truck then collided with a 1994 model GMC pickup truck driven by Josh Anderson, 22, of Natchez,&uot; Crawford said.

Anderson was wearing a seat belt and was not injured, Crawford said.

Crawford said Sherwood Ware was seated in the middle between Payne and Paul Ware when the accident occurred in the northbound lanes of U.S. 61.

None of the occupants of Payne’s vehicle were wearing seatbelts, Crawford said.

Crawford said MHP Trooper James Sizemore investigated the accident with assistance from Troop M’s accident reconstructionist, Sgt. Charles Case.

Crawford said the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department also responded to the call.
