ATCHEZ &045;&045; Jarrius Rice who was shocked by electric wires at the Margaret Martin building Wednesday, said he’s doing &uot;all right.&uot;

Rice, who has been in the Mississippi Firefighters Memorial Burn Center in Greenville since Wednesday afternoon, was doing masonry work on the city building when the scaffolding he was working with touched three electric wires each carrying 8,000 volts.

&uot;I have a few burn marks, but that’s it,&uot; said Rice, 31. Rice does not remember the accident.

He was one of three employees of Fitzgerald and Son Masonry on the scaffolding when the accident occurred. Workers and medical officials were able to remove him from the scaffolding by carrying him through a window in the building.

Entergy Customer Service Manager Stephen Caruthers said the men were working within the 10-foot line required by state law. Fitzgerald and Son Masonry was subcontracted by Ransom Construction to do the work on the building. The City of Natchez contracted Ransom Construction.

Francis Ransom of Ransom Construction said he was unaware of the 10-foot law.

&uot;I don’t think any of us realized that we were close enough to that line to touch it,&uot; Ransom said. &uot;The scaffolding must have gotten away from the helper and fallen toward the line.&uot;

Ransom said it was up to the architect of the project to meet safety requirements.

Rice said he had not been told when he would be able to leave the hospital.
