Rebels, Rams hosting playoff contests

NATCHEZ &045; Timmy Foster has fared much better on the mound of late.
So he’s getting the ball today. Normally the Game 3 starter, Foster will start in the playoff opener today when Adams Christian hosts Jackson Academy in the opening game of the best-of-three series to open the MPSA Class AAA playoffs.
Seniors Douglas Davis and Glenn Williams will start on Thursday at JA.
&uot;Timmy’s mechanics have gotten better,&uot; Adams head coach Gill Morris said. &uot;He really wasn’t driving to the plate and getting that chest out in front of that right knee. He’s got his confidence back, his mechanics are better and he’s hitting his spots. But I’ve got confidence in all three of my pitchers. There’s no favoritism going on here.&uot;
The Rebels are in the playoffs for the first time since the 2001 season and enter as the No. 4 seed out of the South. The Raiders are the No. 1 seed from the North and enter the playoffs after going 12-1 in district and edging out MRA for the top spot.
&uot;They’re a quality ball club,&uot; Morris said. &uot;I think if we get good pitching, we’ll be fine. I think we’ll hit their pitching. Neither one of their top two pitchers are the caliber of pitching we have seen. But they are solid defensively and have some good arms in the outfield.&uot;
Porter’s Chapel at WCCA
WOODVILLE &045; That first home playoff game in 20 years just wasn’t enough for the Rams.
Now they’ll get the unenviable task of hosting Porter’s Chapel, a team that has lost one game all year
at the hands of Class AAA power Hillcrest Christian.
Game time is 7 p.m.
