NATCHEZ &045; They won’t be picking up trash or picking berries with their red buckets, but volunteers with the United Way will be asking Miss-Lou residents to fill their buckets with donations Tuesday morning.

The United Way of the Greater Miss-Lou along with the Adams County Sheriff’s Office is conducting a roadblock at the intersection of U.S. 61 and U.S. 84/98 at Washington, from 7 to 11 a.m. today.

&uot;We thought that a roadblock would be something different for this area,&uot; said Rhonda Stevens, director of the United Way of the Greater Miss-Lou. &uot;We will just be going to the cars that are at the stop light and saying ‘Please give to United Way.’&uot;

The ACSO is conducting the roadblock for the United Way. &uot;It’s a good cause,&uot; said Sheriff Ronny Brown. &uot;We’re going to be there and help them raise a little money.&uot;

Natchez Police officers also will volunteer to assist with the roadblock.

&uot;All the money contributed, that money stays in Adams County and Concordia Parish,&uot; Stevens said. &uot;It’s very important you know what your money is doing and where your money is going.

&uot;In times like this for Adams County, its good to know a neighbor is helping a neighbor.&uot;

Stevens said the United Way funds about 20 agencies and all of the money collected Tuesday will go to support those, including but not limited to the Salvation Army, the Concordia Parish and Adams County Council on Aging, the Red Cross, Pleasant Acre Day School and the humane society.

&uot;I hope it continues every year with the sheriff’s office and local law enforcement,&uot; Stevens said.

If it works out well, Brown said he would try to make sure the roadblock does become an annual fund-raiser.
