Man jailed in hammer incident

NATCHEZ &045;&045; Jerard Corey Campbell was arrested late Thursday night in connection with an incident Monday night that sent one man to the hospital.
Campbell, 30, 499 Lower Woodville Road, who is charged with aggravated assault, allegedly hit Henry Barnes III in the head with a hammer in a business parking lot on Seargent S. Prentiss Drive.
Campbell turned himself into Natchez Police around 10 p.m. Monday night.
A warrant was out for his arrest.
Barnes, 26, 632 Otis Redding Drive was transported to a Jackson hospital with serious head injuries as a result of the incident.
He was in critical condition with brain swelling as of Friday.
Police responded to a disturbance call at 6 p.m. Monday on Seargent S. Prentiss Drive.
They arrived to find witnesses who said Barnes was hit in the head with a hammer during the fight.
No other individuals were involved in the incident.
Campbell will be arraigned Monday morning.
