Events for the flotilla will begin at 8 p.m. Friday at The Dock with the crowning of the flotilla royalty and continue into Saturday with the blessing of the flotilla at 2 p.m.

Although she didn’t know the number of registered boats or piers for the annual competition, Maroon hopes to have a large turnout for the flotilla. &uot;Everything is set to go,&uot; Maroon said. &uot;We will have prizes for the patriotic, non-patriotic, small craft categories and an overall winner.&uot;

There will be public viewings of the flotilla parade at Spokane Marina, Duck’s Nest II, and The Dock.

Vidalia will unveil its new 40-by-60-foot covered stage during the Fourth of July Celebration at the Vidalia riverfront amphitheatre. A &uot;Wanna Have Fun Only Old Fashioned Choir&uot; open to anyone who plays an instrument or sings will headline the celebration at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

The event marks the first stage in bringing events to the riverfront. &uot;We’re all excited about it,&uot; Vidalia Mayor Hyram Copeland said. &uot;It’s something that non-profit and civic organizations can do to raise money.&uot;

Several church booths will also be set up at the event.
