East Central 17-18s claim win in last at-bat over Morehouse, 2-1

RAYVILLE, La. &045; The East Central 17- and 18-year-old Dixie Majors rallied for a run in their last at-bat to take a 2-1 win in the opening round of their district tournament Saturday.

East Central sat tied with Morehouse at 1-1 heading into the bottom half of the seventh when put together a little rally. Trey Keith singled to center and moved up on a Gregory Ketchings single, and Andy Moon walked to load the bases with one out.

Garrett Jones then hit a slow roller in the hole between second and first, and the second basemen couldn’t go home and tried to go to second for a double play, but no one was covering the bag. Keith scored the winning run to end the game.

Moon, who got the win in relief after starter Mac Ware got into the sixth inning, put out a flame in the seventh inning when Morehouse threatened. With one out Moon walked Dale Edmonds, who stole second on a play between the pitcher and catcher.

The next batter grounded to Chris Ensminger at third, and he fired to Te Riley at first for the second out despite Edmonds moving up to third. Moon walked the next guy, and he stole second for runners at second and third with two outs, but the next batter flied out to Jones in short left to end the inning.

In the sixth Morehouse scored its run when a single off Ware through the left side got the runner home and put runners on first and second. Moon then got the next guy on a foul out to Ensminger before issuing a walk to load the bases. He then got the next guy on a strikeout to end it.
