Winnsboro breaks deadlock with 15 runs

VIDALIA, La. &045; Winnsboro exploded for 15 runs to break a sixth inning, 8-8 deadlock and advance in the Dixie Youth District 5 sub-district All-Star tournament with a 23-8 win over Ferriday at Vidalia Dixie Youth Park Wednesday night.
Winnsboro, with one loss, will play undefeated Vidalia in the championship round of the double-elimination tournament at 6 p.m. today.
Ferriday was eliminated from the tournament with its second loss in as many nights.
Starting pitcher Mason Lyles scattered six hits and went the distance for Winnsboro, while six Ferriday pitchers gave up a combined total of 15 hits.
The last out in the top of the sixth came agonizingly slow for Ferriday, as Winnsboro plated 13 of its runs with two outs.
&uot;We had a tough inning, but the kids had a good season, and we did the best we could,&uot; Ferriday coach Kenneth Hedrick said.
Tyler Waller singled, doubled and tripled to lead Winnsboro hitters. Ryan Neuroth, Jon Wyatt Hebert, Devin McMannis, Ryan Sullivan and Hunter Chunn all added hits for Winnsboro.
&uot;We had a big inning tonight Š Now we’ve got to win two against Vidalia tomorrow night,&uot; Winnsboro coach Chris Sullivan said.
Ferriday took a 5-1 lead in the bottom of the second after Ryan Forman doubled and drove in two runs.
But Winnsboro tied the score at 5-5 in the top of the fourth when a Chunn fly ball got through to the fence.
Later in the inning, Waller doubled to put Winnsboro on top 7-5.
Ferriday battled to tie the score at 7-7 in the bottom of the fourth and 8-8 in the bottom of the fifth before Winnsboro blew the game open in the sixth.
