It’s that time already &045;&045; students in the Natchez-Adams School District are back in the classrooms today.
Teachers at Frazier Primary School know they have to take extra care with students coming to school for the very first time.
Guidance counselor Marne Burr said a big part of her job today is making everyone feel at home.
&uot;I make sure everyone gets to their classrooms,&uot; Burr said. &uot;And I look out for those who are a little more reluctant to leave mom. I try to dry tears and pat backs. And I watch for the parents who are more reluctant to leave too.&uot;
Frazier teachers were busy in their classrooms Wednesday putting the finishing touches on before a new bunch of students comes in.
Tresa Pinkney, a first-grade teacher, was at the school Wednesday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. but said she could keep preparing forever.
&uot;Tomorrow will be reading stories, going over rules and procedures and giving tours,&uot; Pinkney said. &uot;There will be some assessment to see what they know too.&uot;
Kindergarten teacher Tara Brooks said she knows it will be a rough day for some.
&uot;Some have never left mom before,&uot; she said. &uot;I want to make it as fun as possible and hug and love on them to make them feel at home. It will be about getting to know everyone, showing where the bathrooms are and what the lunchroom procedure is.&uot;
The primary and elementary school days start at 7:45 a.m. while Robert Lewis Middle School and Natchez High start at 7:55 a.m.
Area private schools will begin the year next week, with Adams County Christian School and Holy Family Elementary School starting Monday.
ACCS Headmaster John Gray said he was looking forward to another year.
&uot;It’s been a real good summer for us,&uot; Gray said. &uot;We got a lot of things accomplished.&uot;
School improvements include a fresh paint job on the physical plant and new textbooks.
ACCS orientation will be from 8 to 9 a.m. Friday for seventh- to ninth- graders and at 10 a.m. for the remaining high schoolers.
