Hounds get by ASC; Tri-County motors past Chiefs, 41-27

FERRIDAY, La. &045; Last week the Huntington Hounds moved the ball effectively against Grawood, but seven turnovers led to an eventual triple-overtime loss.

This week the Hounds did not turn the ball over and Huston Eliser was a factor in both of the team’s touchdowns, setting up one with a long run and throwing for another in their 12-6 win over the Amite School Center Rebels Friday night.

&uot;I’m not saying we made any mistakes, but we played better tonight,&uot; Huntington head coach Bo Swilley said. &uot;We played better offensively in terms of fumbles. We fumbled once and didn’t lose it.&uot;

Eliser’s 36-yard run set up Trey Keith’s 2-yard touchdown run midway through the first quarter to give the Hounds a 6-0 lead. Eliser then connected with Hunter Norwood on a 26-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter to give Huntington (1-1) a 12-0 lead.

Despite the hard hit, Keith finished with 89 hard-earned yards on 25 carries against an Amite defense that played much better than it did in its 34-0 loss to Trinity last week.

The Rebels (0-2) scored on a 13-yard touchdown pass by Casey Aldridge in the third quarter, but the Hounds defense kept the visitors out of the end zone the rest of the game.

&uot;The defense had a good game,&uot; Swilley said. &uot;We played through the whole game, but we’ve got to get better conditioned. I was a little disappointed that we didn’t run the ball better. ASC is much better than they played last week against Trinity. They’ve got a new offense and a new defense and that gave us fits.&uot;

Tri-County 41, Tensas 27

ST. JOSEPH, La. &045; With standout quarterback John Mark Johnson having a surprising off game, it’s a good thing that Tri-County, MPSA’s No. 2 Class A team has a talented running back named Drew Posey.

Posey scored three of the Tri-County’s last four touchdowns, including two in the pivotal fourth quarter, to give the Rebels the win in a game that was closer than many people expected it to be.

&uot;I’m so tired. They were running up and down the field, both teams,&uot; Tensas head coach Chris Jacobs said. &uot;Both teams gutted it out. It was a heck of a game.&uot;

Tensas took an early 7-0 lead when Tyler White threw a 45-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Borsch with 7:22 to go in the first quarter.

The Rebels’ special teams could have easily come back to haunt them as they missed three extra points and allowed Tensas’ Micheal McWilliams to score on a 70-yard kickoff return midway through the fourth quarter that got the Chiefs back in the game.

Johnson threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Benji Campbell early in the second quarter and his two-point conversion run game the Rebels a 14-7 lead.

But the Chiefs responded with another White-to-Borsch touchdown pass, this one from 20 yards that tied the score at 14-14 at halftime. But the second half belonged to Posey, who had 196 yards rushing on 31 carries for the game.

Posey scored on a 4-yard run in the third quarter and on runs of 9 and 8 runs in the fourth quarter.

&uot;He’s good,&uot; Jacobs said of Posey. &uot;He was running just as fast late in the game as he was early in the game. Their quarterback’s got a good head on his shoulders.&uot;

Jacobs pointed to one play in the second half that could have been pivotal for the Chiefs.

&uot;We dropped an interception midway through the third quarter that would’ve given us a chance to tie or go ahead,&uot; Jacobs said. &uot;It went right through our fingertips and one of their guys caught it and got a first down.&uot;

Centreville 35, WCCA 13

CENTREVILLE &045; With Rams’ starting quarterback Collin Dor out with a knee injury, coach Paul Hayles went to Spike Deville to lead the offense. While he performed admirably, no one could stop Centreville’s offensive weapon, running back Blake Devall.

Devall rushed for 135 yards on just nine carries and scored three touchdowns to lead the Tigers to a decisive win.

&uot;The matchups were not in our favor,&uot; Hayles said. &uot;Coach (Bill) Hurst has a very good ball club. Our young team battled to the end.&uot;

Just like last week against Adams Christian, Devall had his way the Rams’ defense this week, scoring on runs of 44 and 14 yards in the second quarter and 35 yards in the fourth quarter after Hurst put the first-team offense back in the game following a Greg Garner 14-yard run for WCCA.
