LIBERTY &045; Huntington rode into Liberty, La. with just a 1-4 record, hardly the type of mark to make an opposing team wary. But the Lady Hounds gave their future foes something to think about, handing Amite School Center a 6-3 loss Tuesday.

&uot;We beat ASC, which was a real surprise,&uot; Horne said.

Horne’s young team has improved throughout the early season. Pitcher Erin Hedrick had her best game of the season, allowing just four hits and no walks while striking out three batters.

She also scored two runs. Teammate Julie Moak also scored two runs while Krystal Arnold provided the power with a 2-3 night, including a double, that produced four RBIs.

But it almost came apart in the bottom of the seventh. Huntington’s Sarah Loomis had to make a diving shoestring catch with the bases loaded to end the game.

&uot;We’ve lost four games, and three were to teams in our division,&uot; Horne said. &uot;We’re still young, we made five errors, but we’ll get better.&uot;

Centreville 14, Oak Forest 0

AMITE, La. &045; Centreville Academy’s Kelly Simpson had two hits and drove in two runs as the Lady Tigers clobbered Oak Forest 14-0 Tuesday.

Simpson singled in the fourth and later scored and came through with a huge hit in the fifth as the Lady Tigers scored 12 runs in that inning to end the contest in five.

The Lady Tigers (8-5) took advantage of a number of walks in the fifth off OFA starter A. McClendon, but Simpson came up with the bases loaded and put one to the fence to score Kendall Madsen and Ash Brashier and move Amber Brown to third.

In the fourth with Centreville holding a 1-0 lead, Simpson singled, went to second on a sacrifice,

stole third and scored on a bases-loaded walk. The Lady Tigers got their first run in the third when Amber Brown doubled and scored on an error on a ball hit by Madsen.

Madsen was solid on the mound in tossing a one-hitter, striking out eight of the 16 batters she faced and walking none. The Lady Jackets’ lone hit was a single up the middle in the fourth inning.

North Pike 11, Franklin 1

SUMMIT &045; The Lady Jaguars took advantage of some walks in the third inning to put together nine runs and down the Lady Bulldogs in four innings.

North Pike had a 2-1 lead after two and got four free passes in the third inning before FC

head coach Leonide Sullivan switched

pitchers. North Pike put together some hits before getting three straight free passes to keep the inning alive.

The Lady Bulldogs brought starter Valerie Cameron back in to close the door.

&uot;We just lost it in that third inning,&uot; Sullivan said.&160;&uot;It would have been a close game if it

hadn’t been for that. But we weren’t hitting tonight, and that hurt us.&uot;

The Lady Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead in the first when Cameron reached base on an error, went to second on a single, went to third on an error and scored on a Courtney Reid single.

North Pike answered with a run in the first and another in the second.
