CENTREVILLE &045; Centreville continued its strong early showing this season, beating Silliman 41-12 in a game that wasn’t as close as the score might indicate.
The Tigers fumbled and lost the ball deep in Silliman territory on their first offensive possession, but that was the last mistake they made in the game, scoring with big plays on the ground from running backs Blake Devall, Chase Paulk and Tal Priest to give the Tigers a 29-point halftime lead.
Centreville’s second team played part of the second quarter and all of the second half. Indeed, when first-team running back Blake Devall came back in for one possession late in the second quarter, he broke the first play for a 53-yard rushing touchdown. That gave his team a 35-0 lead and effectively ended his own night. On the Tigers’ final possession of the first half, quarterback Jennings Field kneeled the ball three times rather than run a play.
Silliman scored a touchdown late in the second quarter and one with 1:17 remaining in the game to make the score look better.
Tensas 41, Amite 8
LIBERTY &045; The Tensas Chiefs did a good job of mixing up the running game and the passing game and got a strong performance from the defense as they cruised to a win over Amite School Center in what basically was a mismatch.
Tensas pretty much had its way with Amite in this battle of former district opponents.
Tensas quarterback Tyler White scored on a 64-yard touchdown run with 10:58 remaining in the first quarter.
The Chiefs then put the game out of reach with a 20-point second quarter as Ryan Borsch, Will Ratcliff and Cody Hill each scored on short touchdown runs to give the visitors a 27-0 halftime lead.
&uot;We stepped up and scored on them early,&uot; Jacobs said. &uot;They had some turnovers that helped us.&uot;
The Rebels, on the other hand, could nothing going on offense against a tenacious and fired up Chiefs defense.
&uot;We did a good job defensively,&uot; Jacobs said. &uot;We didn’t allow the big play. We got after them.&uot;
Tallulah 14, WCCA 6
WOODVILLE &045; The Rams struggled offensive and were scoreless until near the end of the game before finally getting on the scoreboard.
The Rams trailed 14-0 at halftime and finally got on the board with 1:36 left in the game when Ruston Cado scored from 1 yard out. It was the Rams’ best drive of the game, one that went for 73 yards and featured two big pass plays from Collin Dor to T-Ray Deville for 31 and 25 yards to get to the Tallulah 6.
From there the Rams needed four plays to score and got in on fourth down. The Rams tried on onside kick after that but couldn’t come up with it.
Tallulah scored in the first and second quarters. The second score came after Hunter Marsh blocked a punt to give the Trojans the ball at the WCCA 30. Five plays later on a fourth-and-13 situation Jonathan Dukes ran it in for a score for the 14-0 lead.
River Oaks 41, Huntington 8
FERRIDAY, La. &045; A week of poor practices came back to bite Huntington on Friday, and it couldn’t have come at a worse time.
Huntington head coach Bo Swilley attributed that to the loss to the Mustangs to open district play Friday night. The Hounds had about seven fumbles on the night and didn’t punch it in until Mike Ferguson scored on a 12-yard run in the third quarter.
River Oaks had a 27-0 lead at halftime.
&uot;River Oaks is a good football team,&uot; Swilley said. &uot;I can’t take anything away from them. We played like we practiced this week. There were no surprises (from River Oaks). We were playing pretty good defense. On offense we put it on the ground.&uot;
