MOUNT OLIVE &045; The Cathedral Green Wave were no match for the Mount Olive Pirates Friday night as the duo of Pieri Seazell and Jason McNair combined for six touchdowns in several different ways as the Pirates cruised to a 46-7 win in a Region 4-1A game.

Seazell had 263 combined yards rushing and passing with three touchdown runs and one touchdown pass. McNair nearly 80 yards rushing and one touchdown on offense and returned an interception 75 yards for a score for the Pirates (5-1, 4-0).

Cathedral’s lone score came on a 47-yard touchdown run by Zack Calhoun in the second quarter, but the Green Wave (1-4. 1-3), who have battered by injuries, had little answer for the Pirates.

The Green Wave returns home next week to face Enterprise in Region 7-1A.

Buckeye 20, Block 14

JONESVILLE, La. &045; For the second straight year, Buckeye’s defense stopped Block’s running game in its track holding the Bears the No. 7 team in Class 1A, to under 100 yards rushing while forcing them to throw the ball &045; something Block doesn’t like to do.

Matt Johnson did throw the ball extremely well and finished with more than 200 yards through the air and two touchdowns, both to Walter Hankston, who had more thanr 200 yards receiving. But the inability to run the ball hurt the Bears (3-2) Friday night.

The Panthers (2-3) were able to run the ball at will on Block’s defense and finished with nearly 300 yards on the ground.

Block was leading 14-6 but Buckeye shut the door on the Bears in the second half and scored twice itself to take the win.

The Bears start district play next week at Tallulah.

Jena 28, Vidalia 21

JENA, La. &045; Giants quarterback Torey Ray was determined not to let the Giants lose on homecoming Friday night, not even after the Vikings had scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns to take a 21-20 lead.

And his determination sparked the game-winning drive that culminated in Ray’s 3-yard touchdown run and ensuing 2-point conversion run with 37 seconds left in the game that gave the Giants a much-needed win.

Darius Bigby had a big game for the Giants as well on offense and defense with more than 100 yards receiving and a touchdown as well as a 48-yard fumble recovery return for a score.

Jena (2-3) took a 20-7 lead after three quarters before Vidalia (2-3) took the lead on a 7-yard run by Jordan Brewer and a 12-yard run by Leroy Butler.
