Two seasons of one-and-done have set as well with the WCCA Rams as the early August sun at the start of two-a-days.

So here are the Rams again in the playoffs for a third straight year with a mission to do something the school hasn’t done in a while &045; advance in the postseason.

For the first time they will be at home, but the opposition is not any easier as they host Tensas Academy at 7 p.m. Friday

in a Class A first-round game.

&uot;Not to take anything away from a district title, but we’d rather win a South State title or a state title,&uot; WCCA head coach Paul Hayles said. &uot;We’re one of 16 teams competing for a state title. We’d much rather be at home than someone else’s field. It’s that level of comfort you have at home.&uot;

That’s only half of the interesting matchup Friday night in Woodville. On the other side will be a Tensas squad that thanks in part to WCCA did not make the playoffs after getting in six of the previous seven years.

The Chiefs had a tough district to get through and wound up second behind River Oaks, but the accomplished a goal they set back in the summer &045; make the playoffs.

But there’s a little added incentive for them following last week’s 39-7 loss at Claiborne.

&uot;Hopefully it will be a good reality check for us,&uot; Tensas head coach Chris Jacobs said. &uot;The boys were doing some soul-searching. At most, it’s a one-week season right now. Anybody in the playoffs right now has a chance to win this thing.&uot;

The Chiefs were playing solid ball up until that final regular season game against Claiborne when the wheels came off a bit up at Homer, La. The offense struggled against a good Claiborne defense and couldn’t spread the field as it’s done in at times this season.

Quarterback Tyler White threw two interceptions, and the Chiefs lost three fumbles before trailing 39-0 heading into the fourth quarter.

&uot;We were due for a letdown,&uot; Jacobs said. &uot;We played four straight district ball games. We didn’t get an off night. The ball game, added with a lot of sickness and different stuff going around, we were flat. The kids, unfortunately, weren’t very into it. We’ve basically played 13 boys all year, and they’ve got to be tired. Tyler had a rough game.&uot;

The Chiefs have to get their offense back on track this week against a WCCA defense that has come up with more than its share of interceptions. White is the top passer in the Miss-Lou this season and has hooked up with Ryan Borsch on the deep ball a number of times.

The Chiefs like to run the option as well and can give it to Will Ratcliff or big Cody Hill and pound away.

&uot;I feel pretty good about it, but as I speak I’m watching Hill break a 60-yard run,&uot; Hayles said. &uot;I tell you, we’ve got our hands full. They’re throwing for over 100 yards and running for over 100 yards. From what footage we’ve watched, Tyler has been explosive. He makes good decision and has a powerful arm. He’s what you want in a quarterback.&uot;

The Chiefs, however, have to counter with a WCCA front that got plenty of size and out-weighs their front significantly. The Rams have Ruston Cado in the backfield along with Collin Dor, and now the Rams are getting back healthy after a number of starters were missing at times this season, including Dor.

&uot;They’re really big up front and can spread the ball around a lot &045; throw it or run it,&uot; Jacobs said. &uot;Hopefully we have some advantages on them, and they have some advantages on us. Those running backs get behind those big boys, and they push everybody out of the way and then they go. They’re always big up front. Ever since we’ve been playing them, they’ve always been big.&uot;
