NATCHEZ &045;&045; It’s not being a mother that Kim Clark is worried about.

It’s becoming one &045;&045; and that will happen at the latest on Tuesday, when doctors induce labor.

Until then, Clark was sitting with her cousins on the front steps of their apartment building Sunday afternoon, trading stories about their childhood and discussing the impending birth.

&uot;We’ve been telling her to try to walk,&uot; Yolanda Shelby said of her cousin, Clark.

&uot;Just one time, if you walk up that hill (on Silver Street), you’ll be ready,&uot; Shelby teased.

Shelby, Clark and Shelby’s cousin Shandra Tenner came outside Sunday to enjoy the cool weather while the sun was behind the clouds. Even after it got warmer, though, they remained to reminisce about growing up in Fayette.

&uot;We were talking about how it was when we were growing up and how it’s different now,&uot; Shelby said.

All three moved away from Fayette but found themselves back at the same apartment building in Natchez a few months ago.

As they talked about old times, the cousins were also trying to prepare Clark for the birth of her first child, a boy.

Shelby plans to be at the hospital for the birth. After all, Clark was there for her when her child was born &045;&045; and when her grandchild was born, too.

Clark and Shelby’s own grandmother was like a mother to her whole family.

&uot;Grandmama’s like mama, even to the grandkids,&uot; Shelby said.

Growing up in a family with more than 40 grandchildren, Clark has experience taking care of children.

&uot;I have been there to help with a lot of children,&uot; Clark said.

But she is a little scared about the birth.

&uot;I’m just ready to have it over with,&uot; Clark said. She already has her bag in the car, ready to go to the hospital.

Shelby couldn’t resist teasing just a little bit.

&uot;It’s a memorable experience,&uot; Shelby said. &uot;You’ll remember it detail by detail.&uot;
