Schools to host annual Parentfest

FERRIDAY &045; The classes will be for the parents Saturday at the Concordia Parish School district’s annual Parentfest.
The event, which starts at 9 a.m., will be the 10th annual program aimed at helping parents help their children.
The goal of Parentfest is to offer parents ideas, suggestions and techniques for assisting their children improve their academic achievement.
A keynote speaker, motivational speaker Fairest Hill of Tampa, Fla., will speak in the morning and mini-sessions will be offered in the afternoon. Topics of the afternoon sessions will include testing, parent involvement, behavior management, health, reading and math strategies, thinking skills and more.
The Ferriday Lower Elementary Honors Choir will also perform at 10:30 a.m.
The event is put on each year by the school board and the Title I program. It will be held in the Ferriday High School gym.
Lunch, babysitting services and transportation will be provided.
Buses will pickup parents and children in the Ferriday area from 8 to 8:30 a.m. at Tensas Park, Clayton highway, Washington Heights and Lincoln Road Apartments; from 8:30 to 8:45 at Concordia Park Apartments, Montgomery Square and Ferriday Junior High School parking lot; and in the Vidalia area from 8 to 8:45 a.m. at Vidalia Junior High, Vidalia Upper Elementary, Vidalia Lower Elementary, Sycamore Subdivision and in Ridgecrest in front of the Handy Pak Store.
