NATCHEZ &045;&045; Someone’s planning a horrible disaster that will affect Campus Drive on Wednesday.

It could be fire, bombs, accidents or shootings, but there’s really no need to worry. Teams of trained first responders will be on the scene to keep things under control and get valuable experience at the same time.

And after all, the disaster won’t be real.

The annual Local Emergency Planning Committee mock disaster drill aims and making sure Adams County is ready in case a true disaster does occur.

So at 2 p.m. Wednesday the space between Alcorn State University and Co-Lin should be organized chaos.

&uot;It’s to make sure they know when to do something and when not to do something,&uot; Director of Emergency Management George Souderes said.

The disaster drill will be the first major test for two newly trained Community Emergency Response Teams composed of ASU, Co-Lin and local school employees.

The CERTs underwent classroom training over the past several weeks and did some practice drills on the way to earning their certification. Several more CERT training sessions are planned for various communities and groups in Natchez and Adams County.

The first responders to Wednesday’s drill won’t know exactly what they will be dealing with until the time comes, giving them actual on-site experience.

&uot;They have to rely on people and know you are getting good help,&uot; Souderes said. &uot;We make sure people know what they are doing.&uot;
