NATCHEZ &045; It happened again.

For the second consecutive year, Chuck Bartlett is taking a free trip to the SEC Championship game.

Bartlett, a Natchez resident, won a contest sponsored by Golden Flake Snack Foods, the &uot;Ultimate SEC Weekend,&uot; a paid trip to the SEC Championship Game Saturday.

Last year, Bartlett won a competition sponsored by Dr. Pepper, the &uot;Throwing for Dough,&uot; in which he won $400,000 by successfully throwing footballs at targets during halftime of the 2003 SEC Championship game.

As part of the weekend, Bartlett and his wife Sherry will board the Golden Flake corporate jet at Natchez Airport, fly to Alabama to pick up the contest’s other winner and fly to Atlanta, where the game will be.

&uot;I’m not excited about flying in that small a jet and my wife is paranoid about it, but it’s a great thing,&uot; Bartlett said.

They will go to the coaches’ luncheon Friday, SEC Legends game Friday night and a pre-game tailgate before the game.

&uot;That’s what I’m excited about. Last year our seats weren’t very good, we could barely see the game,&uot; Bartlett said. &uot;But this time we’ll be in the corporate box.&uot;

The Bartletts, who are devout Christians, tithed to their church and donated some of the money to several Christian missionary programs they had already been involved with.

Bartlett said he believes God’s hand was in him winning both contests and used his time on television last year to witness for God. He credits God with allowing him, someone who never played football, to complete the 30-yard pass that won him the money last year.

Bartlett chose Tennessee in the Golden Flake contest and won the right to go to the game because Tennessee made it to the SEC Championship.

&uot;I’m excited about the game. My oldest daughter graduated from Tennessee in 2001, so I want them to win,&uot; Bartlett said.

But the fact that he was picked was even more bizarre than it seems at first glance. The man who was picked first to go to the game bowed out because of poor health. Bartlett didn’t find out until early this week he and his wife would be going.
