Trinity edges Lady Hounds

NATCHEZ &045; For much of the last six years, the Trinity Episcopal Lady Saints have dominated the rivalry with the Huntington Lady Hounds, their rivals from across the Mississippi River.

Led by Mallory Archer and Sierra Massey, the Lady Saints came away with a hard-fought 36-29 win over the Lady Hounds Friday night at Trinity’s Clyde Adams Arena.

Archer finished with 11 points and Massey had 10 points for the 5-2 Lady Saints. Erin Hedrick scored nine points to lead the Lady Hounds, now 5-6.

Trinity led 9-8 after one quarter of play, but a 10-4 advantage in the second quarter pretty much put the game away.

Wilkinson 46, McComb 40

McCOMB &045; Latasha Williams scored a game-high 20 points and Kim Griffin had 15 points as the Lady Wildcats needed every bit of them and a fourth-quarter rally to defeat the Lady Tigers on the road Friday night.

Wilkinson County (6-2) trailed McComb 33-28 at the end of the third quarter, but the Lady Wildcats finally found their offensive rhythm and played more aggressive defense for an 18-7 advantage in the fourth quarter.

Monterey 51, Central 16

MONTEREY, La. &045; Monterey head coach Cary Shivley unloaded his bench and 13 players ended up scoring.

The Lady Panthers were no match for the Lady Wolves, who led 22-0 after the first quarter.

WCCA 47, Union 20

WOODVILLE &045; The Lady Rams had one of their best all-around performances on both ends of the court so far this season as they cruised to the 27-point win over the Lady Saints.

Erin Ashley led WCCA (3-5, 2-0) with 19 points and Cary Benton had 12 points. The Lady Rams took a 14-0 lead at the end of the first quarter and used a 16-2 advantage in the third quarter.

Harrisonburg 56, Cathedral 34

MONTEREY, La. &045; The Lady Green Wave had problems getting anything done on offense until the fourth quarter, but by then the outcome of this game at the Monterey Round Robin Tournament Friday night was well in hand.

Mattie Smith led the Lady Green Wave (0-6) with seven points.

Franklin County 68, S. Pike 48

MEADVILLE &045; The Lady Bulldogs (4-1) turned it up a notch in the third quarter with a 17-4 edge to move past the Lady Jaguars.

Franklin led 16-13 by the end of the first quarter and 36-32 at halftime before muscling out to a 53-36 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Shareka Hunt led the Lady Bulldogs with 16 points.
