Hiring grant writer can help development

A new grant writer for the City of Natchez can bring welcome expertise in trying to improve the economy and quality of life for our community.
We’re glad to see that Brett Brinegar, who plans to start work in mid-January, not only has good experience in the field, she also has a built-in love for Natchez and family ties to public service.
Brinegar was born in Natchez and has family from the area, and her grandfather, Jimmy Carter, was an Adams County supervisor for many years.
Brinegar has some great opportunities ahead. Natchez has been the right candidate many times in the past when we have applied for grants, and they have helped do everything from pave streets to build a visitor reception center.
A grant writer can’t do everything, but having one on the city’s team is just one piece of the puzzle toward achieving our goals.
And we have a long list of goals: revitalizing downtown, improving beautification efforts, building better housing, securing jobs.
The work of a grant writer fits well with an economic development strategy because often the projects can enhance quality of life &045; making us look all the more attractive to potential industries.
We are glad to see Brinegar &045; a woman who wants to &uot;give something back&uot; to her birthplace &045; on our city team, and we look forward to the work she will do.
