NATCHEZ &045; Future landlord Edward Killelea warned Kimberly Carter before he opened the front door at 3 Elm St.
&uot;My wife is a big color freak,&uot; she recalled his saying.
But after the initial shock of a bright red entry hall, Carter fell in love with the house.
And on Sunday, she was beginning the process of moving furniture and pictures into her new home.
&uot;I can’t wait to get it done,&uot; said Carter, who will share the house with Janice Moore and godson Terrell Harvey Rodgers, 4.
Carter and Moore had held with the heavy lifting Sunday &045; Carter’s sister and brother-in-law as well as their mother’s best friend, Susan Harris.
Natchez native Harris moved to Texas 27 years ago, but she is so close to the family the girls call her &uot;aunt.&uot;
&uot;(The move) is exciting to me,&uot; Harris said. &uot;I love Kim and Janice a whole lot; they are family to me.&uot;
Standing in the front bedroom, where Terrell will sleep, Carter laughed about the changes made in the furniture arrangement.
&uot;They changed this room around three times,&uot; she said. &uot;And then Susan came in and said, ‘Hmmm Š’&uot;
Carter also hung a few pictures, but she is waiting for the rest of her furniture and for decorator Barbara Gordon for the rest.
Still, she’s a little impatient. The new house is larger than her current home, with a large backyard for Yorkshire terrier Seven.
Carter plans to be completely moved in by the end of the month.
&uot;If I could stay up all night I would,&uot; Carter said. &uot;But I know once I get in I’m going to be very satisfied.&uot;
For now, Carter is renting, but there is a chance she will be able to buy the house from Killelea.
And Carter still has no problem with the bright palette on the walls &045; from the red of the foyer to the peachy mauve in the front bedroom to shades of yellow and gold throughout the other rooms.
&uot;I definitely will keep all the colors,&uot; Carter said. &uot;When he said, ‘She likes colors,’ I believe that.&uot;
