NATCHEZ &045; So they sit and wait.
Both Cathedral’s Green Wave and Lady Wave soccer teams await the outcome of tonight’s Franklin County-North Pike game to determine whether or not they’ll get into the playoffs now after they took a split with St. Aloysius on Wednesday.
The Lady Wave may get into the playoffs on its own or have rely on a tie-breaker depending on the outcome of the tonight’s game. The Green Wave needs a Franklin County win to get into the playoffs as the No. 2 team in Division 7.
The Green Wave downed St. Al Wednesday 7-3. The Lady Wave lost, 8-0.
&uot;We had to have beaten Franklin County,&uot; Green Wave head coach Rick Freeman said. &uot;We’re real young, and North Pike and Franklin County both had a lot of seniors. They stepped up their game this year. The level of play in the whole district has stepped up a lot. It’s very competitive.&uot;
Cathedral picked up its game against the Flashes in the annual rivalry of Catholic schools. The Green Wave (5-3, 7-6) had hat tricks from both Corey Brock and Blas Gaud while getting hot in the second half following a 2-1 lead at the break.
Will Carter also nailed in a shot in the second game as the Green Wave pulled away. Gaud came up with the team’s first goal on a penalty kick with six minutes left in the first half that got things going.
&uot;We played with a level of confidence I haven’t seen before,&uot; Freeman said. &uot;It was good win for them. We got off to a slow start, but I think after the PK we picked it up. They were pinning us on our end of the field, but we finally had some good plays.&uot;
The Flashes scored the game’s first goal 16 minutes in, and the Gaud went to the PK when John O’Beirne was fouled in the box and put it in to tie it up. Later Brock put one in from just inside the penalty box after Carter crossed it to him following a pass from Gaud for the 2-1 lead.
The Flashes tied it up seven minutes in on a header from about six yards out, but the Wave responded three minutes later when Gaud put one in from just inside the penalty box for the lead. Carter scored five minutes later when he chipped in a shot from about 35 yards out.
In the final five minutes the Wave put it in the net three more times &045; Brock on a bouncing ball right in front of the goal, Gaud in front of the box from eight yards out and Brock off a corner kick and assist from Gaud.

The Lady Wave struggled offensively, but it came on a night where everyone got a chance to touch the ball and get significant amounts of playing time.
The Lady Flashes led 3-0 at halftime.
&uot;I was proud of the girls in the first half,&uot; Lady Wave head coach David Gaud said. &uot;In the first game we played them, it was 7-0 at half. But we had a good game.&uot;
