NATCHEZ &045; Much like their entire season to date, the Adams Christian Rebels just had to be patient.
It’s no secret turnovers have slowed them down like a bad case of the flu, but the Rebels made better passes and ran their inside-out offense well late in the game to take a 50-46 win over Parklane Friday night.
The Pioneers scrapped their man defense in the second half for a 2-3 zone, and the Rebels just remained patient.
&uot;We expected them to play man, and we knew at some time or another they’d come out in zone,&uot; AC head coach Kyle Smith said. &uot;We tried to be patient. We didn’t want to throw the ball away, and I thought we did a good job of being patient. I thought our man offense was working well tonight.&uot;
The Rebels kept pecking away all game and finally got over the hump after for most of the first three quarters. Parklane led 40-36 heading into the fourth quarter, but the Rebels got three straight buckets to start the fourth with Casey Gould accounting for the final two.
The Pioneers answered with two buckets from Ben Boyd to take a 44-42 lead, and Gould and Parklane’s Tyler Cunningham traded baskets as they kept the two-point lead. Then Dustin Case hit a jumper from the side to tie it up, and Gould knocked down a shot with 37 seconds left to give AC the lead.
Case came up with a steal in the halfcourt with 24 seconds left, leaving the Pioneers to foul. The Rebels finally went to the line with nine seconds left but missed the front end of a one-and-one.
Foster came up with a steal with four seconds left and followed with two free throws right after to close the deal.
