Cable One rep promises action on problems

VIDALIA, La. &045; A Cable One representative on Tuesday promised Vidalia aldermen some attention to some communications problems.

Aldermen told Kenny Wright of complaints they have heard, including customers’ being on hold while waiting for telephone assistance.

&uot;I’m surprised there is an issue with that,&uot; Wright said. &uot;We’ve spent a lot of money and made a lot of effort to improve our call center. I will pass this on to the supervisor there.&uot;

Aldermen also asked what could be done about the poor quality of lower channels on the cable system, including channel 2, used for Baton Rouge’s WBRZ.

Wright said the main problem is the distance the signal must travel from Baton Rouge.

&uot;It’s just too far away,&uot; he said.

In other business, aldermen:

4Authorized bidding for the gateway complex, the welcome center at the riverfront. Aldermen will then accept bids on March 17.

4Approved a cooperative endeavor agreement for prisoner care with the Concordia Parish Correctional Facility. The city will pay the facility $3.50 per day for each person charged with a misdemeanor who is held at the jail, plus a 25 cent administration fee per person.

4Tabled an occupational license for Shaver’s LLC, a mobile shaved-ice vendor.

Owner Stan Waggoner said the business would be on Carter Street in spring and summer, but Aldermen Jon Betts pointed out that temporary businesses are not allowed on Carter Street under city ordinance.

A brick front is required for businesses on Carter Street.

Copeland said the city inspector and utilities director would work with Waggoner to see that the building is in compliance with ordinances. Aldermen tabled their decision on the business license until next month.

4Approved an occupational license and sign application for Guice’s Barber Shop on Carter Street.

4Approved an occupational license for the Sweet Shop on Martin Luther King, provided the building passes state codes and regulations.
