FERRIDAY &045; Glenn Henderson said he came up with the idea to run for the District B aldermen’s post while coaching basketball at Ferriday High.
Through that job, &uot;I’ve seen the need to do something with the kids, because in the off season they basically do nothing,&uot; Henderson said. &uot;If I could help with putting together a recreation program (for the town), it would be great.&uot;
Henderson noted the town does have a recreation building across the street from Town Hall but added &uot;they have no organized programs.&uot;
But Henderson said he’s also concerned about attracting businesses to the area.
He said he would push for the town to apply for grants that could be used to help entrepreneurs start businesses.
&uot;The grants are available,&uot; Henderson said. &uot;The hard part is just getting out to find people who can open those businesses.&uot;
In addition, he said would work to make sure the town’s ongoing water and road problems are taken care of and would add a business perspective to the board.
Candidates Elijah &uot;Steppers&uot; Banks and Marion Terrell could not be reached for comment before press time.
