RAYVILLE, La. &045; Timmy Foster pitched perhaps his best game of the season in a complete-game performance as he tossed a one-hitter and struck out nine batters to lead the Adams Christian Rebels got by Riverfield 4-0 Thursday.
Adams Christian improved to 9-2 overall and remained undefeated in District 3-AA with a 4-0 mark.
&uot;Timmy just had a super game,&uot; Rebels head coach Gill Morris said. &uot;He threw a good curveball. His sidearm and changeup were good. His fastball was stronger at the end of the game that it was at the start.&uot;
And it was a good thing Foster had his best stuff working. ACCS managed just seven hits. The defense was much better Thursday than it was Tuesday night when the Rebels committed 10 errors in their 13-9 win over Columbia Academy.
ACCS scored one run in the top of the second when Jamie Morris hit a one-out single, stole second, went to third on a passed ball, and scored on a Ray Simpson single with two outs.
The Rebels added two key runs in the top of the second. Foster singled and courtesy runner Luke Brumfield stole second, and scored on a single by Morris, who went to second on a passed ball and scored on a Brian Smith single for a 3-0 lead.
Foster finished off the scoring with a solo home run in the top of the seventh.
Huntington 16, Tensas 4
ST. JOSEPH, La. &045; Every member of the starting lineup for the Hounds had at least one hit, with Chad Thomas and Richard Steele with three hits each, as they finished with 17 hits in the game.
&uot;This was the best we swung the bats all season as far as the way we hit the ball and how hard we hit it,&uot; Hounds head coach Mitch Ashmore said. &uot;Today was one of those days where we swung the bats well.&uot;
Ashmore noted that even in the two innings they didn’t score, the third and fourth, they were still hitting the ball hard.
Winning pitcher Trey Keith was solid on the mound and at the plate for Huntington, which remained undefeated in District 7-A with a 4-0 record and improved to 10-4 overall.
Keith pitched a complete game and allowed six hits. The one mistake he made was a two-run home run by Cody Hill as Tensas avoided being 10-run ruled with four runs in the bottom of the fifth. He struck out six and walked three.
CHS 15-12, Pelahatchie 2-0
NATCHEZ &045; The Green Wave exploded for 11 runs in the bottom of the third inning in the first game, which went five innings, and a nine-run second inning as well as a one-hitter from Patrick McDonough in the second game, which went four innings.
In the first game of this Division 7-1A doubleheader, Pelahatchie managed to stay close early by scoring two runs in the top of the second to tie the score at 2-2.
After Cathedral (5-0, 14-2) scored two runs in the bottom of the second, they put the game away with their 11-run output in the bottom of the third.
In the second game, the Chiefs were no match for McDonough, who had good command of his pitching and struck out nine batters.
Cathedral led 2-0 after one inning and then had its second big inning of the night.
