NATCHEZ &045; One week after Jeffrey Delee pitched a one-hitter in Centreville’s 12-0 win over Trinity Episcopal in four innings, the Saints were hoping for a much better performance.

Even more important, a win by the Saints over the Tigers in this key MPSA District 4-AA matchup Friday night at Chester Willis Field would keep their slim playoff chances alive.

The second meeting was much closer, but Centreville held on for a 7-6 win over Trinity in a 10-inning game that went almost four hours. And that was despite the fact that all 10 of the Tigers’ hits were singles.

And Delee had a huge impact on the outcome of the game in the dramatic 10th inning.

First, in the top of the inning, Delee, who was 2-for-5, got on first on an error, then went to second on a single by Jake Peairs and third on a sacrifice bunt by Chris Landry, who went 2-for-4. Delee then scored on a passed ball. Blake Devall, who led Centreville at the plate with a 3-for-4 performance, also came up big with a two-out single that scored Peairs for a 7-5 lead.

Trinity (3-8, 0-3) cut the lead to 7-6 with two outs as Matthew Freeman singled, went to second on an error and scored on a double by Kyle Ketchings. But Delee ended the game by striking out the next batter.

LAKE PROVIDENCE, La. &045; Even though he’s just an eighth-grader, Trey Brashier is a good pitcher. Briarfield found out first-hand just how good he is Friday night.

Brashier struck out eight Rebel batters, allowed just three hits and walked none as the Hounds made short work of their second straight District 7-A opponent in as many nights.

&uot;He really threw well for us tonight,&uot; Hounds head coach Mitch Ashmore said. &uot;He throws strikes. He’s thrown in a couple of games.&uot;

As was the case in its 13-2 win over Tallulah Academy on Thursday night, Huntington (8-4, 2-0) took won in five innings by way of the 10-run rule.

Leading 2-0 after the first inning, Huntington broke the game open with five runs in the top of the second inning, but did not score again until the top of the fifth, when the Hounds scored six runs and Brashier sealed the deal in the bottom of that inning to send everyone home.

LIBERTY &045; The Rams rallied for a run in the top of the seventh to cut it to one but couldn’t get any closer before dropping their first District 6-A contest of the season.

The Rebels led 4-2, but Eli Ashley reached on a bunt single, stole second and scored on a T-Ray Deville single.

Deville then got thrown out at second for the first out. Jack Maxwell singled, but Ruston Cado was thrown out at third. The next batter struck out.
