Johnson’s homer helps Warren Central down Vidalia in tour final

VIDALIA, La. &045; When Cookie Johnson got a hold to one real good, all people could do was sit back and admire it.
Warren Central’s basketball star &045; a standout softball player in her spare time &045; launched a two-run homer in the first inning as the WC Lady Vikings disposed of Vidalia’s Lady Vikings 8-1 in three innings in the championship of the VHS tournament.
&uot;It was the first home run ever since I’ve had that blue fence up,&uot; VHS head coach Gary Paul Parnham said. &uot;This is my third year (with it). There was no doubt once she hit it.&uot;
The shot was part of a four-run first for Warren Central, who put up four more in the second off Vidalia standout starter Christy Corley. Johnson later singled in a run in the second inning.
Vidalia got its lone run in the third when Emily Raley singled in Chelsey Knapp with one out. Vidalia had four hits in the contest.
ACCS splits at Parklane tour
MCCOMB &045; Adams Christian’s Lady Rebels had a hot-and-cold day at the Parklane tournament after they took a wild 18-15 win over Amite School Center but struggled in a 7-2 loss to the Lady Pioneers.
Against Amite, the Lady Rebels scored seven in the third and used a five-run seventh to take an 18-6 lead before Amite scored nine runs to make things interesting. In Game 2, Adams had 12 hits but couldn’t get the key hits at the right time.
