COLUMBIA &045; Matt Barnes relieved an inconsistent Corey Walker in the fourth inning and held Columbia Academy in check the rest of they way, but it took a five-run rally in the top of the sixth inning to break a tie game as the Adams Christian Rebels held on for a wild 13-9 win Tuesday.
Adams Christian improved to 8-2 on the season, but head coach Gill Morris was not pleased with his team committing an astonishing 10 errors that helped the Cougars get back in the game.
&uot;It was ugly. It was wet. We didn’t play defense, but we swung the bats well,&uot; Morris said. &uot;Barnes did an excellent job in relief. This was his first varsity win.&uot;
ACCS jumped out to a 6-1 lead after three and was on the verge of an easy win when things started to fall apart for the Rebels in the bottom of the fourth.
That’s when Columbia scored four runs, all of which were charged to Walker, who pitched three-plus innings before coach Morris took him out and brought in Barnes.
The Cougars scored one run in the fifth for a 6-6 game and the home team was thinking upset.
The Rebels, however, put the game away with their key rally in the top of the sixth. They added two in the top of the seventh.
Vidalia 5, Mangham 4
MANGHAM, La. &045; Once again the Vikings found a way to win another close game as they got a solo home run from Brett Hinson and solid pitching from Lance Moore.
Hinson’s solo home run, his fifth of the year, in the top of the seventh inning broke a 4-4 score.
After Mangham took an early 1-0 lead, Vidalia got a two-run home run from Josh Bennett, his first of the year, to give the Vikings a 2-1 lead. The Dragons scored twice in the third.
