VIDALIA &045; Call him a jack of all trades.

On Sunday afternoon, despite the growing springtime heat, Robert Douglas could be found at the former Oscar’s Lounge at John Dale Drive and Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, nailing siding on the side of the building.

Sweat beading his face, Douglas barely broke his stride, pausing only to talk for a few moments with a couple of visitors.

Douglas explained that in addition to owning and operating the MLK Car Wash across the street, he also does a variety of home and business improvement projects throughout the area.

Electric work, carpentry, plumbing, siding installation &045; Douglas said he does a little bit of everything.

&uot; These days, with (economic) things the way they are, you’ve got to do a little bit of everything just to get by,&uot; Douglas said.

After the project at the old Oscar’s Lounge &045; which he said will be the site of a record shop in the foreseeable future &045; Douglas has another project to undertake on a nearby Vidalia street, putting storm doors on a house.

After that, he will install windows at another house, then wash two air conditioners.

Although

he said business is picking up somewhat at his car wash and detailing shop, Douglas isn’t about to quit his second day job.

&uot;I do this every day,&uot; Douglas said, getting back to siding job while the sun still shines.
