NATCHEZ &045; This could be it for Cathedral.

In the third game of the Green Wave’s series against Greenville St. Joseph’s at 6 p.m. today, the loser won’t have much to look forward to except a long offseason.

Cathedral won the first game 8-2 in Greenville, but fell 13-4 Monday in the second game in Natchez. Now the Green Wave will make the long drive up north for what could be its last game of the season.

But just a couple weeks ago, Cathedral was in a tougher spot. In the opening round of the tournament, the Green Wave had to come back from the loser’s bracket, defeating Mize twice to win the tournament and advance in the playoffs.

&uot;We faced this situation with Mize,&uot; Cathedral head coach Craig Beesley said. &uot;I told the guys we have to come out and be confident. We can’t be nervous or tentative. We’re going to have to score a few runs, preferably early. With this we have this year I feel more comfortable being the visiting team and batting first. If we score some runs, we can put pressure on the other team. Any other year I would love to be the home team, but this time I don’t mind being the visitors.&uot;

The key for Cathedral will be scoring runs.

&uot;You have to be patient,&uot; Cathedral’s Patrick McDonough said. &uot;They have good pitchers, so if he gives you a good pitch, we have to hit that ball.&uot;

The Green Wave will start McDonough, who got the win in the first game against St. Joseph’s.

&uot;I love pitching. I’m ready to go,&uot; McDonough said. &uot;They’re a very good hitting team. They’re going to hit the ball, but we have to play defense.&uot;

Beesley said that defense has improved in recent weeks, particularly with moving Preston Hicks to shortstop.

&uot;We look like we’ve finally settled in on defense,&uot; Beesley said. &uot;With moving Preston Hicks to shortstop, he not only helps with his physical ability but also he keeps everybody up in the infield as a leader.&uot;

The game will be broadcast on KISS 97.3 locally.

Huntington at Glenbrook
