RAYMOND &045; Even though Central Hinds didn’t have to wait until the fifth inning to score, the Adams Christian Rebels were solid at the plate, on defense and running the bases to pick up a 19-6 win in a District 3-AA game.
&uot;We ran the bases extremely well,&uot; Rebels head coach Gill Morris said. &uot;I don’t know how many stolen bases we had. I was pleased with the hitting. I was pleased with running the bases. I was pleased with the defense.&uot;
ACCS (7-0, 15-2) jumped out to an early big lead, yet a couple of key innings by Central Hinds allowed the game to go to the seventh inning.
The Rebels scored three runs in the top of the first and five in the top of the second off starting pitcher and left-hander Billy Bishop, who pitched into the fourth, and appeared well on their way to ending this game early with an 8-1 lead. The Cougars scored one run in the bottom of the first without getting a hit.
Then Central Hinds (3-4, 4-6) got a two-run home run by Nick Bethaney off Rebels starting pitcher Corey Walker to make it an 8-3 game. That was the closest the Cougars would get for the rest of the game.
ACCS scored three runs each in the fifth and sixth to make it a 14-3 game, but Central Hinds scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to stay in the game, only to see the Rebels score five runs in the top of the seventh for a 19-5 lead.
David Trisler and Timmy Foster hit back-to-back homers that proved to be big in the top of the seventh. Matt Barnes pitched the seventh, giving up a home run to Jason Leist, but retiring the side after that.
WCCA 19, Lamar Christian 1
PURVIS &045; Corey Ellis struck out nine of the 12 batters he faced and Spike Deville had two big hits during a 14-run scoring spree in the second for the Rams in this District 6-A game.
The win moved Wilkinson Christian (7-1, 10-3) closer to winning the District 6-A championship outright.
In their big second inning, WCCA got a two-run double and later on a two-run triple from Deville.
Ellis also came through for the Rams at the plate with a two-run triple.
Huntington 9, River Oaks 4
MONROE, La. &045; Huntington then put the game away with five runs in the top of the eighth. Richard Steele got on with a leadoff walk and later scored on a groundout. Mike Ferguson and Austin Butler each had the key hits in that frame with two-run singles.
Huntington (7-1, 14-6) broke through with two runs in the fifth inning before River Oaks took advantage of an error and four straight hits to take a 4-2 lead.
Monterey 16, Epps 1
MONTEREY, La. &045; Matt Shivley pitched a no-hitter and the Wolves scored nine runs in the bottom of the second inning to put away the Panthers in four innings in this District 3-B game.
Epps (0-1 in district) was able to score one run off Shivley in the top of the first inning.
Amite 9, Trinity Episcopal 3
LIBERTY &045; The Saints had no answer for Dustin Iverson on the mound or at the plate as the Rebels rolled to a win.
Iverson scattered eight hits and held Trinity (3-16) scoreless until the top of the fourth inning. Then in the bottom of that same inning, he broke open a close game with a grand slam home run to give the Rebels a 6-1 lead.
Silliman 6, Centreville 3
CLINTON, La. &045; Centreville rallied in the sixth inning but left the bases loaded against Silliman as the Tigers fell.
Trailing 6-0 going into the sixth, Centreville’s Brad Blade led off with a single. Josh Lanehart doubled him in as part of a three-run sixth.
Centreville walked to load the bases, but a strikeout and a ground ball to the pitcher ended the inning and ultimately led to a loss for Centreville.
