Cathedral ’05 students praise Voss

NATCHEZ &045; They’ve accomplished and overcome much.
But some of those who know Cathedral School’s Class of 2005 the best said perhaps the most notable thing about that class isn’t a student, but a teacher.
Libby Voss was diagnosed with cancer one year ago and has underwent treatments since then, including one just last week.
But from the beginning, Voss determined she would see the Class of 2005 through this school year. And Voss volunteered to teach two senior economics classes, as well as American history for juniors, without pay in order to do so.
What made the Class of 2005 so special to her?
&uot;All classes are that special to me,&uot; Voss said, adding it’s the love of Cathedral and all its students that brought her back.
&uot;Plus, it keeps me busy,&uot; Voss said. &uot;It occupies my mind. So actually, it’s more selfish for me.&uot;
Her senior students, however, would beg to differ.
Take Cathedral Star Student Will Carter, who chose to honor Voss as his Star Teacher this year.
&uot;She’s a person who loves people,&uot; Carter said. &uot;She loves teaching kids, loves everything about that school.&uot;
Voss has inspired Cathedral students by battling cancer and doing what she loves regardless. &uot;She’s fighting this disease,&uot; Carter said.
Claire White, another Cathedral senior, said not having Voss teach them economics is pretty much unthinkable to CHS high schoolers.
&uot;It’s a senior tradition. Everybody expects to have Ms. Voss for economics,&uot; White said. &uot;At first, we thought she might not be there, but she just has so much perseverance. We really admire her.&uot;
White said in addition to economics, Voss has taught her and other seniors &uot;to appreciate life, because she values it so much.&uot;
Don’t count Voss out for the next school year, either. Voss said that once she undergoes another round of chemotherapy later this summer, she’ll let the school know her plans.
