VIDALIA, La. &045; Sometimes the best gift is simply the presence of family and the chance to savor a sunny summer afternoon in their presence.
And on Sunday, that seemed to be the Father’s Day present James Craft appreciated the most.
Craft said he got his day off to a good start at his church, First Baptist of Vidalia, where his Sunday school class was treated to a special visit and musical presentation by a former member.
And after church, Craft himself was treated to a special lunch in his honor, complete with pork roast as the main dish.
But although he praised the lunch itself, his smile really widened when he spoke of the family members &045; including Buzz, one of Craft’s four sons &045; who were in attendance.
Not only that, but another of Craft’s sons, Kerry, came down from Monroe with his wife, Beth, especially to see his father later on that afternoon.
Beth Craft said the death of her own father just five weeks ago made her appreciate even more the chance to visit Kerry’s father.
While they were together, the family took a chance to simply rest in side yard of the Crafts’ house &045; except for Beth, who spent some of the time weeding the garden with, and running after, nephew Thomas.
Thomas Craft, 2, had been staying with his grandparents in Vidalia for the week while his mother is on a school trip to Europe.
Back home, for Father’s Day, Kerry and Beth Craft gave his father a copy of Tommy Tinney’s book &uot;The God Catchers.&uot;
In addition, they made a donation in his name to a group of women and children’s shelters in Monroe.
But what seemed to mean the most of all the gifts, for James Craft, seemed to simply be family.
