NATCHEZ &045; At this rate, the 2006 season may not come soon enough.
So what if Adams County’s win streak during the summer came to an end earlier this month. The Rebels kept their win streak alive at home dating back to the 2004 regular season with a couple of wins Tuesday over Franklin County and showed signs of pitching perhaps being the least of their worries next season.
Clay Floyd threw five solid in Game 2 after Matt Barnes went four in Game 1 with Dustin Carroll tossing a scoreless fifth.
The Rebels won Game 1 3-2 and clobbered the Bulldogs in the nightcap 14-0.
&uot;All of them threw a good game,&uot; Adams head coach Ron Rushing said. &uot;(Floyd) is definitely going to be able to help us next year. The last two times he’s thrown he’s looked great. He’s been around the plate, his curveball has been breaking and he’s had some pop on his fastball.&uot;
Floyd may fill in nicely for that No. 3 spot in the Rebels’ staff behind Timmy Foster and Corey Walker if he keeps pitching like that. But sophomore Barnes shook off two runs early in Game 1 to settle down before Carroll shut the door in the fifth.
David New hit a three-run homer in the third inning to take the 3-2 lead.
In Game 2, the Rebels jumped all over Franklin’s pitching with five runs in the second and third innings. Foster cranked a two-run homer in the second game, and the Rebels tacked on four in the fourth.
&uot;We were swinging at a lot of first pitches that weren’t good pitches to hit (in Game 1),&uot; Rushing said.
